Career
Gonzalos distinguished himself at Ceuta in the great African expedition of John I and acquired fame by taking part in exploring voyages along the coast of Africa. A gulf in Rio de Oro bears his name. Disregarding orders from Prince Henry the Navigator to go straight to the Land of Guinea, Cintro landed in the Bay of Arguin. Here in 1445, he was killed in an attack by the Moors.
