Background
Guntis Strupulis was born on September 24, 1933 in Madona, Latvia. Son of Artūrs Strupulis and Anna (Burdajs) Strupulis. He also had two brothers, Uldis Strupulis, Andrejs Strupulis, and a stepbrother, Jānis Strupulis.

Strupulis graduated from the School of Printing Arts in 1953 and from the Graphics Department of the Art Academy of Latvia in 1963. His teacher was Arturs Apinis.
At the beginning of his career, Strupulis was a bookmaker and a master of production training at the School of Printing Arts in 1956-1965. Then he worked as a teacher of evening courses at the Art Academy of Latvia from 1966 to 1969.
Since 1964 Strupulis participated in gallery and museum exhibitions, including at the Exhibition Hall ARSENALS, LNMA.
Guntis Strupulis died on June 15, 1974 at the age of 40 in Jelgava, Latvia.

Strupulis was a member of the Latvian Artists' Union since 1970. He was also a board member and president of the Latvian Artists' Union from 1972 to 1974. Moreover, Strupulis was the founder and first chairman of the Jelgava Artists' Association in 1970-1974.
Guntis Strupulis was married to Zenta Strupule. The couple had a son Bils Strupulis.
