Sergey Mikhailovich studied at the painting department of the Moscow School of Painting, Sculpture and Architecture (1909-1918) from Abram Efimovich Arkhipov, Konstantin Alekseevich Korovin, Leonid Osipovich Pasternak.
Artist of Mikhail Fedorovich Larionov group , participated in the exhibitions "Donkey's Tail" (1912), "Target" (1913). Sergey Mikhailovich lead a painting studio in the Moscow Proletkulte (1918-1919), a painting workshop of the Moscow Higher State Artistic and Technical Workshops (1921-1923), taught at the Voronezh Free Art Workshops, the Voronezh Higher State Artistic and Technical Workshops (1920-1921), Voronezh Artistic Industrial Technical School (1923-1929), Moscow Institute of Architecture and Construction (1929-1932), worked in the workshop of monumental painting of the Academy of Architecture of the USSR (1932-1948). Sergey Mikhailovich worked mainly in the field of mythical scenes and biblical-evangelical problems.
