Since he wrote Enno Gyoja Ominezakura in 1751, he kept writing for 33 years. He produced a total of 54 pieces. His reputation was established after he wrote Honcho Nijushiko (Story on Katsuyori Takeda), Imoseyama Onna Teikin (Story on Iruka Soga), Omi Genji Senjin Yakata (Story on Hideyori Toyotomi), Igagoe Bochusugoroku (Story on Mataemon Araki), and other masterpieces which are still produced today. A close friend of Monzaemon Chikamatsu, he adopted the name of Chikamatsu.
