Harrison Branch earned a Bachelor of Fine Arts in 1970 from the San Francisco Art Institute and an Master of Fine Arts from Yale University's School of Art (New Haven, Connecticut) in 1972.
Harrison Branch joining the Department of Art at Oregon State University (Corvallis) in 1972, as an assistant professor, he became an associate professor in 1977. From 1970 to 1971 he was a photography lecturer at the University of Bridgeport in Connecticut.
Harrison Branch received grants from Oregon State University Graduate School in 1976 and 1977 and from the Oregon State Foundation in 1974. In 1972 he won an Alice Kimball Traveling Fellowship from Yale University.
