Background
Harsimrat was born on 25 July 1966 to Satyajit and Sukhmanjus Majithia in Delhi. Her brother Bikram Singh Majithia is a Akali Modern Language Association from Majitha and a minister in the Punjab state government led by her father-in-law Parkash Singh Badal.
Career
Her husband Sukhbir Singh Badal is the deputy chief minister of Punjab and the president of Shiromani Akali Dal. Badal started her political career with the Indian general election, 2009. She was elected to the 15th Lok Sabha from the Bhatinda constituency after defeating Congress candidate Raninder Singh by 120960 votes.
She was part of a project named "Nanhi Chhan" to save girl child and trees.
At present she is the union minister for food processing in the Government of India. Committed to give fillip to underutilized food-processing sector in India, Harsimrat Kaur Badal, Union Minister of Food Processing has envisioned setting up at least one mega Food Park in every state.
NDA government is committed to addressing the issue of development in North-East and has laid special emphasis to develop food processing sector in the resources rich North-east region. A three-day ‘Vibrant North East’ expo will go a long way in pursuit of development of food processing sector in the region.
The event is jointly organized by Centre for Agriculture and Rural Development and ASSOCHAM in association with Ministry Of Development Of North Eastern Region.
lieutenant is noteworthy here that the North East"s Food Processing sector is a part of Prime Minister Narendra Modi"s "Make In India" mission and Union Minister Harsimrat Kaur Badal has undertaken many initiatives to unleash region’s untapped potential. Union Ministry of Food Processing Industries is pursuing development of North-East. As a step in this direction, 3 Mega Food Parks have been sanctioned for this region, one each in Assam Mizoram and in Tripura.
Food park at Assam has been operational since May, 2015 and work on rest of the projects has been underway at fast pace.
Controversies: Moga molestation case
Harsimrat Kaur is one of the owners in many of these companies. In April 2015, a teenage girl died and her mother was seriously injured when they were allegedly molested and thrown from a running bus near Gill village, in Moga district.
