Rosenberg received a Doctor of Engineering degree from the Institute of Aerodynamics in 1963.
Rosenberg began his career as an engineer Robert Bosch GmbH in 1963. A year later he took the same position at Battelle Institute. Then in 1965, Hartmut was appointed a manager at Hoechst AG, where he worked until 1970. Also he served as a professor of engineering at Johannes Gutenberg University Mainz from 1968 to 1970. In 1970, Hartmut became a professor of engineering at the University of Kaiserslautern, where he served until 1996.
