Career
Became editor-in-chief of the Waseda Bungaku, a literary periodical issued by his alma mater. After studying in Britain (1928) he became professor of English literature at Waseda University (1931). Well-known as an expert on Oscar Wilde. Received his doctorate (1936).
Wrote books of literary criticism.
