Gangata received a Bachelor of Science degree in Human Anatomy from the University of Zimbabwe in 2001. Two years later he earned his Bachelor of Science degree in Physiotherapy from the same university. Also in 2008, Hope was given a Master of Science degree in Medicine and a Master of Science degree in Applied Anatomy from the University of Cape Town.
In 2012, he earned his Master of Arts degree in Higher Education from the University of East Anglia. In 2018, Gangata received a Doctor of Education degree from Staffordshire University.
Gangata began his career as an anatomy demonstrator and prosector at the University of Zimbabwe in 2000. Three years later he took a position of a junior lecturer in anatomy at the same university, where he worked until 2005. In 2006, Hope was appointed an anatomy demonstrator at the University of Cape Town. Then in 2008, he became an anatomy assistant lecturer at that university. Also Hope served as a lecturer of anatomy at the University of East Anglia from 2009 to 2013.
In 2014, he took a position of a lecturer of anatomy at the University of Birmingham. Since 2018 Gangata has been a senior lecturer in human anatomy at the University of Exeter.
