At an offensive by Norinaga, Harumoto fled to Omi Province (Shiga Prefecture), taking with him Shogun Yoshiharu Ashikaga. After Shogun Yoshiharu died (1550), his power declined and he made peace with Norinaga and returned to Kyoto (1552). Soon afterward, Harumoto renewed the feud with ^Norinaga but was defeated and fled to Omi again, taking with him Shogun Yoshiteru. In his absence, Norinaga became powerful in Kyoto.
