Hosokawa was born in 1562. The second son of Iujitaka and brother of Tadaoki.
Warrior. Second son of i^ujitaka and brother of Tadaoki. At first, he was a follower of Nobunaga Oda and, after his death, served Hideyoshi Toyotomi. Ren-dered meritorious services in Hideyoshi’s campaigns in Odawara and Korea. In the Sekigahara Battle in 1600, which sealed the fate of the Toyotomis, he fought with distinction on Ieyasu's side, together with Tadaoki. Ieyasu granted him a fief of 10,0 koku of rice at Motegi in Shimo- tsuke Province (Tochigi Prefecture). Ieyasu added in 1609 a 6,000-Jcoku fief at Hitachi (Ibaraki Prefecture) to Okimoto^ in appreciation of his services in the Osaka campaiRns against the Toyotomis (1614-15).
