(The best of the post Watergate thriller to date. Hunt doe...)
The best of the post Watergate thriller to date. Hunt doesn't miss a trick. He combines beautiful women, an international chase, violence and duplicity by all concerned to create his best novel. Morgan was an ex-employee of the Agency who, as a younger man, did high-level dirty work for God and country and then went to prison for refusing to talk out of deference to an out-of-date idea: national security. Morgan's retirement peace is shattered by the news that Roger Hargrave, a onetime senior int he American inteligence community who defected to the Soviet Union a decade ago, wants to come out. Morgan doesn't like defectors. But when he is offered $200,000 to meet Hargrave, he agrees to go to Geneva. The Agency has provided a driver and an escort, and the four of them get in the car and head out of the airport. Morgan is the only one to leave the car alive. He has no choice but to run, trying to establish contact with his old connections. He doesn't understand what is going on on either side of the once Iron Curtain as, because of his curiosity, old friends suddenly die.

She is half Arab, half Jew. But whose side is she on? (Armchair Fiction presents extra large editions of classic...)
Armchair Fiction presents extra large editions of classic mystery-crime double novels. The first novel is E. Howard Hunt’s, “The Violent Ones.” It was a red fury that drove Paul Cameron to Paris, into a maelstrom of intrigue and violence. In the center of that whirlpool he found a flaming nightclub singer, a fortune in illegal gold—and quick death on every side. Here is a novel that carries you with breathless speed into an exciting adventure that will leave you breathless by story’s end. The author of “The Violent Ones” is Watergate burglar and infamous Nixon “plumber,” E. Howard Hunt. Before his deep involvement in politics and national intelligence, Hunt was a mystery and intrigue writer for many years, right up into the 1950s. But it is his involvement with the CIA and the Nixon Administration that he will always be remembered for. Yet, it is clear that Hunt was a very skilled and knowledgeable fiction writer. In reading “The Violent Ones” it is fascinating to examine the fictional machinations of Howard Hunt’s mind. Machinations that would eventually carry over into his real life profession as a CIA operative. This double novel’s second tale is a terrific murder thriller, “High Heel Homicide” by Frederick C. Davis. The first time Trex encountered the killer it was in the glare of headlights and the blood was dripping from the killer’s hand. His boss had gotten the axe…literally. The second time Trex met the killer, he got a bullet through his arm. Then a studio writer was beaten to death with a fire poker… Three people also had identical gunshot wounds. So by the third time Trex and the killer were ready to meet, it was obvious to him that he was being set up for the morgue. But this time Trex would meet the killer face to face with a leveled pistol. Provided, that is, that he could find out exactly who the killer was beforehand. So less than thirty-six hours after almost running over the killer, Trex was staring down the barrel of the killer’s gun. It was at that moment, he figured it all out…

(Back Cover: Death Waters! Hank Sturgis had ostensibly bee...)
Back Cover: Death Waters! Hank Sturgis had ostensibly been hired to skipper the yacht Vela in its deadly hunt for the giant Manta-ray, but his was actually to be a more dangerous assignment--to act as stud for the lovely Leslie Crawford. There were man-eating sharks below, the savage rage of a spurned husband above. And before Hank would finally head the yacht home for Miami, the blue Caribbean waters would run red. As in his first best-selling novel 'East of Farewell' and his recent 'Berlin Ending', E. Howard Hunt proves again that he is a master story teller as well as a man of action. In this compelling narrative of violence and sex in the Caribbean, he exploits the knowledge he learned so well as one of the key figures in the Bay of Pigs invasion and in his twenty years as a CIA agent. From Inside Front Cover: "...the men spun wildly together, cursing and choking--forming a kaleidoscope of hate that moved in a frenetic unit toward the port seat. Sturgis saw a chance and jabbed the butt at Crawford's head, but a flailing arm turned the blow, pitching Sturgis forward, off-balance. Turning back, he raised the gun to try to end the madness, not caring which man went down--wanting only to stop the crazed struggle--but the men's knees lurched heavily against the seat, making a brief and deadly fulcrum that overbalanced their bodies and toppled them across the coaming and over the side into a swirl of foam."
