Commissioned 2d Lieutenant, United States Army, 1913. Advanced through grades, becoming brigadier general, April 7, 1941. Appointed commander 10th Air Force, India, August 1943.

Promoted to rank of major general, 1944. Director First National Bank of Arlington, Virginia.
