Igor Vasilievich Shutov graduated from the Khrenovsky Forestry College (1946), the Leningrad Forestry Engineering Academy (now Saint Petersburg State Forestry University) (1951).
Since 1951 was a graduate student, junior researcher, head of the herbicide laboratory, deputy director, chief researcher at the Saint Petersburg Forestry Research Institute (now Saint Petersburg State Forestry University). He had such scientific interests as studying the laws of the formation of new generations of forests on clear-cutting; chemical composition management of forest cenoses; development of highly productive and environmentally friendly methods and technologies for forest care; increasing the productivity of taiga forests and reducing the time for obtaining commercial softwood. Author of over 100 works.
