Valentin Grigorievich Nesterov graduated from the Forestry Faculty of the Voronezh Agricultural Institute (now Voronezh State Agricultural University) (1929).
In 1930-1935 Valentin Grigorievich was an assistant, associate professor, dean of the forest expert faculty of the Moscow Forest Technology Institute. In 1935–1936 was a deputy editor-in-chief of the State forestry committee of the USSR State Committee on Forestry, in 1936–1938, deputy director of the Siberian Forestry Institute in Krasnoyarsk.
In 1938-1946 Valentin Grigorievich was the head of the sector of the All-Union Research Institute of Forestry. In 1946-1953 was a Deputy Head, Head of the Main Directorate of Forestry and Forestry Universities of the USSR Ministry of Higher Education, at the same time (1948-1951) Head of the Department of Forestry at the Moscow Forestry Institute. Since 1953, Head of the Department of Forestry of the Moscow Agricultural Academy named after K.A. Timiryazev.
