Ilya Yakovlevich Furman was an associate professor and bibliophile. He was also known as a popularizer of scientific knowledge.

Ilya Yakovlevich Furman was born on February 11, 1908, in Baku, Baki, Azerbaijan.

Education

Ilya Yakovlevich graduated from the Physics and Mathematics Faculty of Azerbaijan State University (1927) and graduated from the Mining Faculty of the Azerbaijan Polytechnic Institute (1929).

Career

From 1935 to 1935 Ilya Yakovlevich was a geological engineer in the Azneft system in Baku. In 1935 he became a Deputy Director for Science at Grozneft Institute of Geology and worked there until 1937. From 1941 to 1946 he worked as an Associate Professor at the Department of Geology at Grozny Oil Institute. In 1946 he became an Associate Professor at the Department of Geology and Gas at Saratov State University and worked there until 1951. In 1952-1969 Ilya Yakovlevich worked in various departments of the geological faculty of Voronezh State University.

Achievements

  • Ilya Furman was actively engaged in cultural and educational activities. He regularly spoke to the staff of Voronezh State University and the general public with lectures of natural science content, promoting the latest achievements of domestic and world science.
