From 1936 worked for institutions of USSR Academy of Sciences. From 1946 professor, Moscow Physical Engineer Institute. 1953-1956 head, Theory Department, Institute of Theoretical and Experimental Physics, USSR Academy of Sciences.
Also directed theory groups at Kurchatov Institute of Atomic Engineer, USSR Academy of Sciences. And at Nuclear Problems Laboratory, Joint Institute of Nuclear Research, Dubna. 1953-1964 correspondent member, USSR Academy of Sciences, specialized in elementary particle physics.
Developed physical principles and methods of calculating nuclear reactors and founded Soviet school of reactor theory. Studied radiation of high-energy electrons, used in calculating electron accelerators. 1957, in the course of research on quantum theory, formulated theorem according to which at high energies the interaction of particles and of antiparticles is equivalent.
