Career
Served Ieyasu Tokugawa and distinguished himself during the Osaka-jin, but as he violated some army regulations was not rewarded. This forced him to renounce his military status and set forth aimlessly till he came to Ichijoji Village, near Kyoto, where he built a home and decorating it with the portraits of 36 famous Chinese painters. Named it Shisendo (divine poets’ shrine) and began writing poetry. His fame soon spread and he was invited to the court of Emperor Gomi-no-o, but he refused to go.
