Isidor Mikhailovich Kleiner was born on May 23, 1896 in the town of Bereznya, Chernigov, Ukraine. He was from the family of a craftsman.
In 1918 he entered the Faculty of Law of Kharkov University, transformed into a legal department (1920). He graduated from the Institute of National Economy (now Kyiv National Economic University) in 1922.
Isidor Mikhailovich lived in the city of Kharkov since 1905. In 1915 he was mobilized to the army and sent to Voronezh. After the exemption from military service (1916) he was preparing for matriculation exam, worked in "Voronezhski den" newspaper. He used to write one-act plays for Cameo Theater.
In 1922 he moved to Petrograd, in 1926 to Moscow. He was one of the founders of the Union of Revolutionary Dramatists. He worked in various institutions, newspapers and theater magazines.
