In 1926 the family moved to Moscow. During the war he graduated from the military school and served in the railway troops. In 1950 he graduated from the Higher School of Theater named after BV Shchukin (now the Boris Shchukin Theater Institute) in Moscow.
He began his creative career as an actor and director at the Chelyabinsk-40 Theater (now Ozersk) (1950-1957). In 1964 he trained at the Bolshoi Drama Theater named after M. Gorky in Leningrad with Tovstonogov.

In 1964-1967 - the main director of the Ivanovo Drama Theater, 1969-1972 - the main director of the Moscow Drama Theater. Stanislavsky (now Stanislavsky Electrotheater), in 1967-1969 and in 1972-2004 - the main director and artistic director of the Perm Academic Drama Theater (now the Perm Academic Theater-Theater). He has created more than 150 performances.
Since 1956 - a member of the All-Russian Theatrical Society (now the Union of theatrical figures of the Russian Federation). For many years he was a member of the Central Audit Commission of the All-Russian Theatrical Society, a member of the board of the Perm branch of the STD of the Russian Federation, he headed the director's section of the regional zone of the Urals. He was a member of the Commission on State Prizes of the RSFSR at the Council of Ministers of the RSFSR.
