In 1945 he graduated from the Leningrad State Institute of Theater, Music and Cinematography named after N.K. Cherkasov (L.S. Vivien course).
He worked in the Saratov Drama Theater. In 1947-1954 he staged performances in the Voronezh Drama Theater. In 1959-1961,he was the Chief Director of the Central Theater of the Soviet Army, and in 1961-1965 - the Moscow Drama Theater named after N.V. Gogol. In 1968-1984 he worked the Theater on Malaya Bronnaya. He also worked abroad. Since 1982, he was the Head of the course at the State Institute of Theatrical Art named after A.V. Lunacharsky.
