Ivan Yakovlevich Posyada was born on April 9, 1823 in Zinkiv, Poltava Oblast, Ukraine.
After graduating from the Poltava gymnasium, Ivan Yakovlevich entered the Faculty of Philosophy of Kiev University in 1843. As a member of the secret Cyril and Methodius Society in 1847, Pasyada was sent to Kazan under the supervision of the police, where he graduated from the Faculty of History and Philosophy of the University (1849).
Since 1865, Ivan Yakovlevich was engaged in teaching activities (in military schools of St. Petersburg and Polotsk). He took up the post of Director of the teachers' seminary of the South-Western Region (Kiev, Korostyshev, 1869-1879). Pasyada was the Director of Public Schools of Voronezh Province (now Voronezh, Russian Federation) (January 1880 - October 1885), Orenburg Province (now Orenburg, Russian Federation) (1885-1891). He collected folk songs in Poltava region.
In Kazan, he wrote a paper dedicated to the early works of Nikolai Vasilievich Gogol.He published the training manuals "The first lessons in a folk school" (1881), "A guiding primer for national teachers" in Voronezh (1882).
