J.M. Hayes

Background

J.M. (Mike) Hayes was born on November 16, 1944, in Hutchinson, Kanas, to H. M. "Jimmie" Hayes, a dry cleaner, and May (Clayton) Hayes.

Education

Hayes received a Bachelor of Arts in 1966 and a Master of Arts in 1970, both from Wichita State University. He also attended the University of Arizona from 1968 to 1971.

Career

J.M. (Mike) Hayes spent three years of post-graduate work at the University of Arizona. He also worked as an officer and director at the Import Parts International, Inc. and as a recreation assistant and coordinator at Parks & Recreation. Currently, Hayes is the Writer-in-Residence for the Pima County Library system in Tuscon, Arizona.

Achievements

• J.M.’s Hayes is known as a prolific author whose books have been released to critical acclaim, including Prairie Gothic, which was a Best Books You’ve Never Heard Of selection by New York Magazine, and Server Down was named One of the Five Best Mystery Novels of 2009 by Library Journal.
