Associate with Tennessee State Health Organisation, 1926-1934, director div. of preventable diseases, 1930-1934. Deputy director health and safety, Tennessee Valley Authority, 1934-1938. Entered commissioned corps, United States.P.H.S., 1938, serving in National Cancer Institute, subsequently as executive assistant to surgeon general, deputy surgeon general, 1946-1948.

On loan from United States.P.H.S., to serve as medical director National Security Resources Board, June, 1948-May 1949. Professor and head department public health practice, Graduate School Public Health, U. Pittsburgh, 1949-1958, dean since 1958. Organized health division of U.N.R.R.A., director of health, 1943.
