Janina Renée was born on March 4, 1956, in Detroit, Michigan.
Janina Renée graduated from Chapman College, where she received a Bachelor of Arts in anthropology in 1977. Also, she was a postgraduate student at Michigan State University.
The author of two adult books on tarot, Tarot Spells and Tarot: Your Everyday Guide: Practical Problem Solving and Everyday Advice, published a decade apart, in 2001 Janina Renée published a book, Tarot for a New Generation that aimed at young adults. In it, she explains how to interpret the tarot card deck. Janina wrote this book because no other tarot manuals are addressing young people's concerns. Also, as the mother of a child with Asperger's syndrome (a form of autism spectrum disorder), Janina Renée has a long-standing interest in learning disabilities. For this reason, Tarot for a New Generation includes a chapter that touches on different learning styles and discusses how tarot imagery can be used to aid memory and inspire homework projects. As part of Janina's continuing research, she explores ways that other areas of folk wisdom can be applied to learning challenges. She also researches different ethnic and traditional means of blessing children and developing their self-esteem, moral character, work ethic, and the like.
Janina Renée is well known as a writer. For her work, she became a holder of several awards. She got a Best Self-Help Book Award from the Coalition of Visionary Retailers for the book, Tarot: Your Everyday Guide: Practical Problem Solving and Everyday Advice in 2000 and a Best General Interest Title Award for the book, Tarot for a New Generation in 2001.
