Bakshi began his career as a management trainee at Shilpi Advertising Private Limited in 1971. Two years later he took a position of a junior executive at Clarion McCann Advertising. Then in 1975, Jayant became an account executive at Ramakrishna Swamy Advertising. Also he worked as an account director at Grant Kenyon & EckHardt from 1978 to 1982.
In 1983, Jayant was appointed a manager of marketing and advertising at Malhotra International. Two years later he became a director at Lintas India Ltd. In 1992, Bakshi became a president of Karishma Advertising Ltd.
