Jim Stone was born on December 2, 1947, in Los Angeles, California, United States.
Jim Stone received a Bachelor of Science in Architecture (1970) from the Massachusetts Institute of Technology (MIT). He then earned a Master of Fine Arts in Photography (1975) from the Rhode Island School of Design.
Jim Stone was teaching at Boston College, Chestnut Hill, Massachusetts (since 1973), and at the New England School of Photography, Boston (since 1978, and also in 1975-1976). Jim Stone has taught at the Rhode Island School of Design in 1976-1978, at the Art Institute of Boston in 1974, and at the Cambridge Center for Adult Education from 1970 to 1979.
