Horn received a Bachelor’s Degree in Biology with a concentration in Middle EasternStudies from Williams College in Massachusetts. In 1991, Horn completed her MBA at Yale University’s School of Management.
Horn started her career at Smith Barney Harris Upham & Co in 1987 upon graduating from Williams. She was a Financial Analyst in the Corporate Finance division where she worked on various transactions, including mergers and acquisitions and public offerings of debt and equity and debt. Upon completing her MBA, Horn returned to Smith Barney as an Associate.
In 1992, Horn accepted the position of Director of Financial Planning and Merchandise Planning for Saks Fifth Avenue, which was owned by Bahrain based Investcorp. She reported to the CFO and was responsible for financial analysis of theCompany’s operations and strategic planning. She worked closely with McKinsey on an international expansion plan.
In 1994, Horn joined First Boston Credit Suisse as Vice President in the Mergers and Acquisitions Retail Group. In this role, Horn advised retailers on strategic mergers, joint ventures, and both buy and sell side transactions. As a member of the company’s recruiting team, Horn worked to hire and mentor female co-workers.
Relocating to her husband’s native Norway in 1995, Horn became a partner at HQ Norden Securities. She focused on equity research for Scandinavian retailers and supported corporate finance in retail venture transactions. She traveled extensively in Scandinavia to cover the industry and was ranked as one of Norway’s top 3 retail analysts by Kapital magazine in 1997. Her coverage of Hennes & Mauritz was covered by the Wall Street Journal.
In 2000, Horn became a self-employed consultant and private investor, under Greylock Management AS. Within this role, she focused on advising local retail startups.
In 2005, Horn began working on various corporate boards in Norway. Horn served asan Independent Director for Norse Energy Corp. ASA from 2005 to 2008 and Petrojarl ASA in 2006. In 2007, Horn relocated to Singapore with her family and continued her board work in Singapore and Thailand with Director positions at Thoresen Thai Agencies Public Company Ltd. from 2008 to 2011, Mermaid Maritime Public Company Ltd. from 2009 to 2011, and Asia Offshore Drilling Ltd from 2011 to 2012.
In 2013, upon moving back to Norway, Horn became the Sector Manager of the retail group at The Boston Consulting Group. Within this role, Horn managed the arena on a daily basis and founded a female mentoring group for young consultants. Finally in 2014, Horn assumed the leadership role as Managing Directorof Oak Management AS. She currently manages a family portfolio of investments.
As an avid philanthropist, Joey Horn has been involved in various charitable ventures, focusing on organizations that provide opportunities for women, children, and families. Through these ventures, Horn has been involved with international groups like Right To Play, Mothers2Mothers, Restore The Music UK, and Cancer Research UK. These non-profit organizations focus on leveraging the power of play for underprivileged children, providing meaningful healthcare employment opportunities for women affected by HIV, championing music education programs in public schools, and eradicating cancer.
