He was a pioneer settler in the Indian Territory, and after the end of the Civil War (in which he fought), carried on architectural practice in Kansas, later admitted to Statehood. Mr. Haskell is said to have planned or supervised the construction of most of the early public buildings in Topeka. Appointed State Architect, he served in that office three years during which period he was in charge of work on the east wing of the Capitol building, completed in 1866, also was architect of Washburn College at Topeka, the State University at Lawrence, several Government Schools and Asylums, and the County Court House at Cottonwood Falls, Kans.
