John Clark Plankinton

Background

John Plankinton was born on June 5, 1917 in Hilo, Hawaii, United States; the son of John C. Plankinton, an electrical engineer, and Elizabeth Clark Plankinton.

Education

John Plankinton studied chemical engineering at Oregon State University from 1935 to 1939.

Career

In 1938 John Plankinton was appointed as a central purchasing agent at Crown Zellerbach Paper in San Leandro, becoming a plant manager in Los Angeles in 1977. In the same year, he held the position of vice president in San Francisco. John was also a vice president and director of VanGclder Paper in Amsterdam.

Nowadays Plankinton is a long-retired paper company executive. Over the past several years he has made compiling the book Crossword Proper Name Finder his full-time job-hobby.
