In 1938 John Plankinton was appointed as a central purchasing agent at Crown Zellerbach Paper in San Leandro, becoming a plant manager in Los Angeles in 1977. In the same year, he held the position of vice president in San Francisco. John was also a vice president and director of VanGclder Paper in Amsterdam.
Nowadays Plankinton is a long-retired paper company executive. Over the past several years he has made compiling the book Crossword Proper Name Finder his full-time job-hobby.
