His novel King"s Royal (1975) uses his extensive experience in the liquor trade to produce a historical about the invention of blended whisky in mid-nineteenth century Glasgow. A 1983 British Broadcasting Corporation television series was based on the novel. Queen"s Royal is a sequel.
