John Stevenson was born on January 14, 1952, in Baltimore, Maryland, United States. He is a son of James Reilly Stevenson and Pearl Stevenson (maiden name Johnson).
John Stevenson received Bachelor of Arts and Bachelor of Science degrees from St. John’s College in Annapolis, Maryland in 1983.
John Stevenson started his career in 1984 as a producer for two Baltimore stations, WCBM-Radio, and WFBR-Radio serving on the latter for two years. He has authored two radio plays, ‘The Black Ace’ and ‘The Mystery Squadron’, both of which aired in 1984. The same year, Stevenson published an educational book for young people, ‘Telecommunications’, which was part of the Visual Science series issued by the British publishing house of Macdonald.
During the course of the next two or three years, he took pictures, edited, or wrote copies for a variety of publications in specialized fields ranging from education to hospital management to pollution engineering, and for the National Journalism Center in Washington, D.C. After, Stevenson moved to Connecticut, and by 1987, he struck out on his own as a freelance writer and photographer.
