Admitted to Virginia bar, circa 1834, began practice of law, Buchanan. Professor of law University of Virginia, 1845-1895, raised school’s standards and increased enrollment, after Civil War, borrowed money on his personal credit to prepare for session of 1865-1866. Author: The Virginia Report 1799-1800, published 1850.
