Minor, John Barbee was born on June 2, 1813 in “Minor’s Folly,” Louisa County, Virginia, United States. Son of Lancelot and Mary Overton (Tompkins) Minor.

Education

Attended Kenyon College, Gambler, O., 1831. Graduated from the University Virginia, 1834.

Career

Admitted to Virginia bar, circa 1834, began practice of law, Buchanan. Professor of law University of Virginia, 1845-1895, raised school’s standards and increased enrollment, after Civil War, borrowed money on his personal credit to prepare for session of 1865-1866. Author: The Virginia Report 1799-1800, published 1850.

Institutes of Common and Statute Law, 1875-1895. Exposition of the Law of Crimes and Punishments, 1894.
