He was educated professionally at the Massachusetts Institute of Technology and wasgraduated in 1889.
During his career Mr. Chandler acquired a reputation as an authority on Colonial architecture. He was the author of a number of books and articles on the subject, and was identified with the restoration of various historical landmarks in his native state among which were the Paul Revere house, the old Corner Book Store in Boston, and the House of Seven Gables in Salem. In addition he designed several public buildings and supervised the erection of the Colonial Village, a Housing Project at Springfield, Mass.
