Kakudayu Yamamoto was born in Japan.
Yamamoto Kakudayu was originally a disciple of Gendayii Toraya, then studied in Osaka, Japan.
After studying in Osaka, Yamamoto Kakudayu moved to Kyoto where he began staging puppet shows and won great fame. He was granted title of Tosa-no-jo. He based his recitals on popular tunes and "kouta" songs which he delivered in a sweet melody with a ring of pathos.
