He graduated from Kobe Commercial School in 1918 and then studied at Pennsylvania and Princeton Universities, United States.
Kan-ichiro Matsumoto became director in 1930, vice-president in 1935 and president in 1936 of Meiji Mining Company, Ltd., and director of Nishi-Nippon (Western Japan) Railway Company, Ltd. He held various additional posts including those of president of Tsurumi Yogyo (Ceramics) Company and Nagasaki Mining Company and permanent director of Nikkeiren (Federation of Japan Employers’ Associations).
