An important and early study of Navaho mythology. The manuscript was completed in 1952 and submitted in substantially the present form to the Department of Anthropolgy of the University of Chicago as a doctoral dissertation. It was prepared for publication in 1954 and was published by the MAFS. Later this work was also published by the University of Texas Press. The study proposes to explore a portion of Navaho mythology to see what light it throws on the life view and values of the people whose literature it represents. This is primarily an anthropological investigation and as such has precedent in anthropological studies of cultural reflection and myth....
