(This is a book that grew out of frustration. The frustrat...)
This is a book that grew out of frustration. The frustration was rooted in our failed attempts to help people modify health-related behavior. From a behavioral medicine perspective, it was readily apparent to us that there were many things people could do to improve their health. Some of these were preventive behaviors, whereas others were much more therapeutic or rehabilitative in nature. Put another way, there were specific well-known behavioral strategies that people could use to maintain or regain their good health. Yet despite our good intentions, enthusiasm, and considerable efforts, something was wrong.

(For decades the term, Boston marriage, was used to descri...)
For decades the term, Boston marriage, was used to describe single women who lived together and shared their lives. The presumption then was that these partnerships were nonsexual. In recent years, however, the opposite assumption has prevailed, causing some women involved in such relationships to hide the asexual nature of their attachments in the lesbian community.

The ancient art of chanting has long been embraced by the world's great religious traditions as a path to healing and enlightenment, but only recently has Western science begun to recognize its therapeutic effects on the body and mind. Chanting provides a fascinating introduction to this powerful and increasingly popular practice and shows you how to use chant in your own life as a powerful tool for relaxation, body-mind healing, and spiritual self-discovery.

(Most books for potential authors show how to pick subject...)
Most books for potential authors show how to pick subjects, find agents, and connect with a publisher. Veteran authors Kathleen Brehony & Karen Jones explain that writers also need to lead the promotion of their book-either working with a publisher or on their own to determine whether it will be a bestseller or a bust. They offer a step-by-step introduction to the fundamentals of book promotion-from getting reviews to setting up bookstore events-with plenty of practical advice and examples of what to expect. It also includes an emphasis on the creative strategies authors can use to make their book a commercial success.

(Most people understand that suffering and sorrow are inev...)
Most people understand that suffering and sorrow are inevitable parts of every life and that illness, death, or loss of a loved one are universal experiences, not retribution or a symptom of bad luck. But few of us comprehend the ways in which suffering can give rise to growth. In this sensitive and caring book, Kathleen Brehony describes the experiences of people who have endured life's trials and consequently found deeper spiritual and psychological meaning in their lives. Drawing on a rich selection of mythological and religious stories from many faiths, Berhony provides a historical and cultural context that enriches the meaning of these deeply personal tales.

(It is often difficult, in our hurried world, to create an...)
It is often difficult, in our hurried world, to create and maintain the kinds of connections necessary for a healthy life. We communicate with co-workers down the hall via e-mail, make friends on the Internet, live thousands of miles away from our families, and spend less and less time with our overscheduled spouses and children. These and other modern difficulties contribute to increased isolation and alienation. In Living a Connected Life, Dr. Kathleen A. Brehony poses and answers an essential question, What does it mean to belong? She presents research that underlines both the importance of social connections and the difficulties caused by their absence, and helps us recognize and understand these effects not only intellectually but with our hearts.
