This was the very first celebration of the Chronicles of Narnia (begun in 1955, before the final volume was published), and is still the only one of its kind. Furthermore, it is the only book about himself and his writing that C. S. Lewis ever praised. The preface is by Walter Hooper. The introductory chapter is called Making Pictures. The three main chapters are Spoiled Goodness: Lewiss Concept of Nature, The Coming of the Lion: Lewiss Concept of God, and Possible Gods and Goddesses: Lewiss Concept of Man. The concluding chapter is called Weaving a Spell. END

(An updated and expanded classic study of C.S.Lewis's Narn...)
An updated and expanded classic study of C.S.Lewis's Narnia series with a study guide and a chronological review of the seven books. Biblical parallels and applications highlighted are for personal reading pleasure, but provide pracical helps for teachers, parents and ministers as well. Journey into Narnia includes Kathryn Lindskoog's classic "Lion of Judah in Never-Never Land" and her brand new "Exploring the Narnian Chronicles." The pair provide a wealth of information and ideas, as well as personal reading pleasure. C.S. Lewis, in a handwritten letter: The Lion of Judah in Never-Never Land arrived yesterday and I read it at once. You are in the centre of the target everywhere. For one thing, you know my work better than anyone I've met: certainly better than I do myself." Edmund Fuller, in The Wall Street Journal. "An excellent exposition of the sinewy theology that underlies the Narnia tales." Colin Manlove, in The Chronicles of Narnia: "Lindskoog's success is in enriching and deepening our understanding of the implications of the Narnia stories.... She shows how the books are part of a far larger fabric of imagery and idea.... It is small wonder that C.S. Lewis valued this book." Kathryn Lindskoog is a first-generation C.S. Lewis specialist who has studied his writing since 1954. She went to Oxford to meet Lewis in 1956 and has published six books about him since then, including C.S. Lewis: Mere Christian and Light in the Shadowlands. She has taught writing and literature in several institutions, including Fuller Theological Seminary and Biola University. She lives in Orange, California and since 1989 produces a quarterly newsletter called The Lewis Legacy. Booklist said: Educators who use the Narnia chronicles in their classrooms, or even those adults who just are fans of the series, should find this book of interest. Lindskoog, has expanded and updated her book The Lion of Judah in Never-Never Land: The Theology of C. S. Lewis Expressed in His Fantasies for Children, which was first published in the 1950s. Part 1 of the book explores the Christian theology that underlies the books and how Lewis' concept of God and nature affected his writing. Part 2 looks at the seven books individually. Each of those chapters contains questions for children to think about, vocabulary, and factual quizzes. Some of those "just for fun" quizzes are on the simplistic side, but teachers might use the activities as a jumping-off place for their own ideas. Pen-and-ink drawings enliven the text. Ilene Cooper
