She graduated from the Surugadai Women's Theological School in Tokyo. She became a disciple of Koyo Ozaki, novelist.
Kayo Senuma visited Russia twice. She was one of the first writers to introduce Anton Chekhov to the Japanese reading public. She also translated Chekhov's works.
