Kemper Wilson Diehl was a well-known American journalist and co-author, together with Jan Jarboe Russell, of the book "Cisneros: Portrait of a New American" (1985).
Background
Kemper Wilson Diehl was born on September 27, 1918, in San Antonio, Texas, United States. He was a son of Chandler Diehl and Margaret Wilson Diehl. Chandler Diehl, Jr. was Kemper's brother. His grandfather, Col. Charles S. Diehl, was a co-owner of the San Antonio Light and also covered the Indian campaigns in the 1870's against the Sioux and Sitting Bull.
Education
Initially, Kemper attended Texas Military Institute (present-day TMI Episcopal). In 1939, Kemper received a bachelor's degree in Political Science from the University of Wisconsin-Madison.
In 1939, Diehl began his career in journalism, working as a cub reporter for the San Antonio Light. Between 1941 and 1945, he served in the United States Army, becoming first lieutenant and receiving the Bronze Star. When Diehl returned home, he went back to the San Antonio Light, but in 1964, he moved to the San Antonio Express-News. During his tenure at the San Antonio Express-News, Kemper acted as a political writer and columnist. In 1996, Kemper retired.
In 1985, Diehl, together with Jan Jarboe Russell, co-wrote "Cisneros: Portrait of a New American", a biography of a former Clinton cabinet member Henry Cisneros.

Connections
Kemper married Mary Suzanne Farnum Diehl in 1941. She worked as a part-time feature writer at the Express-News in the late 1960's. Kemper and Mary's marriage produced two children - Andrew Kemper Diehl and Stephen Kemper Diehl. Mary died in 1997.
