Malunga received Bachelor of Arts in Law from the University of Swaziland in 1998. Two years later he earned his Bachelor of Laws degree from the University of KwaZulu-Natal. In 2002, Kevin was given a Master of Laws degree from Georgetown University Law Center. Also in 2007, he received a Doctor of Juridical Science degree from the University of Wisconsin.
Malunga began his career as a lecturer of law at the University of Natal in 2001 and held it for two years. He served as a consultant of Joint United Nations Programme on Human Immunodeficiency Virus and Acquired Immune Deficiency Syndrome in Geneva from 2002 to 2004. In 2004, he took the position of a lecturer at Witwatersrand University. Nowadays Kevin is a deputy public protector of the Republic of South Africa.
