Background
Kikuo Tsunoda was born on the 25th of May, 1906 in Yokosuka-shi, Kanagawa Prefecture, Japan. His father was a member of the Sakura Samurai and was a founding member of the Navy Factory Printing Division, but in 1907 he began printing business in Asakusa and relocated in the family.
Education
Since elementary school Kikuo Tsunoda have posted some haiku, tanka and poems,he liked to read Takizawa Bakoto, Shandong Keiyo and Kuroiwa Tears,Tolstoy and Dostoevsky during his junior high school days .
In 1928 Kikuo Tsunoda graduated from Insatsu Kpgeika (Printing&Industrial Art Department) of Tokyo Higher School of Industrial Art.
Career
After graduation Kikuo Tsunoda served as engineer of Suirobu (Hydrographic Department) of the Navy. In 1925 he launched upon literary career becoming associate editor of Yomiuri Shimbun (newspaper). In 1926 he won a prize novel contest of Mainichi Shimbun. Tsunoda is the author of such books as Yoki-den (The Legend of the Weird Chess Board) and Dokurosen (The Mystery of Dokurosen Coins-coins imprinted skull and crossbones).
