Kristie Carlson Wolferman was born on November 9, 1948 in Kansas City, Missouri, United States. She is the daughter of Jack Carlson and Joann Elizabeth (Plasterer) Carlson, a homemaker.
Kristie Carlson Wolferman received her Bachelor of Arts (cum laude) from Middlebury College in 1970. She also earned her Master of Arts from the University of Missouri, Kansas City in 1986.
Kristie Carlson Wolferman has served professionally and as a volunteer in a variety of capacities. She worked at the Petit Appetit Cooking School for Young Cooks as a founder and co-director from 1980 to 1986. Since 1986 she was an elementary school teacher at Pembroke Hill School, Kansas City, and then a teacher of the seventh and eighth-grade writing workshops from 1994 to 1996.
Wolferman was also a sponsor of several school activities and chairman of the language arts committee. She was interviewed on public television and also appeared on public television doing cooking demonstrations.
Besides, she has served as a docent at the Nelson-Atkins Museum of Art, beginning about 1973 and has done volunteer work with the March of Dimes.
Kristie Carlson Wolferman is a recipient of numerous awards and grants, including the Graybar American History Prize for an outstanding senior thesis in 1970. She also received honorary certificates of service from Nelson-Atkins Museum of Art in 1983 and 1988.
Wolferman also received Alumni Faculty Grant from Crow Canyon Archaeology Center in Colorado in 1989.

1986Kristie Carlson Wolferman has been a member of the International Reading Association, Friends of Art, Pi Beta Phi Alumnae Club, Historic Kansas City Foundation, and Native Sons of Kansas City.
Kristie Carlson Wolferman married Frederick Ross Wolferman, a money manager, on June 13, 1970. The couple has a son Stuart.
