He graduated from Tsinghua College (now Tsinghua University), Beijing, in 1914. Mr. Hu went to America, where he graduated from the Massachusetts Institute of Technology in 1918.
Hu Kuano-piao served with the Stone and Webster and the General Electric Co. from 1918 to 1920. He returned to China in 1920 and interested himself in engineering works. Mr. Hu became manager of the machinery department of the company in 1922. He acted as a manager of the Chee Hsin Engineering Works and of the sale promotion department of the Chee Hsin Cement Co., Tianjin, in 1924.
Mr. Hu was sent by the Chinese Government to investigate industrial conditions in Europe and America in 1924. Hu Kuano-piao joined the Beijing-Shenyang Railway as assistant chief of the Technical Division between 1926 and 1927. Later, he became a consulting engineer to the Hua Hsin Cotton Mill, Qingdao.
