Ferguson earned a BFA at the University of Nebraska in Lincoln in 1977 and also attended an Archival Photography Seminar at the Rochester Institute in 1978.
In 1978 he was appointed artist-in-residence- in-the-community for the Nebraska Arts Council and Western Heritage Museum in Omaha. He also works as curator of photographs for that museum's Bostwick-Frohardt Collection (also since 1978). In 1977-78 he was curator of photography at the Adams County Historical Society, Hastings, Nebraska.
Ferguson was awarded two artist-in-residence grants and two exhibition grants (1978 &.1978) from the Nebraska Arts Council.
His work consists of medium- and large-format silver and color prints.
