Background

PHILLIPS, Lawrence Barnett was born on January 29, 1842 in London. Son of late Barnett Phillips, of Bloomsbury Square, diamond merchant.

Career

Pinches’ School; private tuition. Inventor of the rocking bar keyless work for winding watches. Patent 1607 sketching boxes and palette.

Simplified mechanism for chronographs. Perpetual calendars and calculating machines. Since 1882 has devoted himself to art, and exhibited at Royal Academy, New Gallery, Institute, Grosvenor, and the principal provincial galleries.

He is an Associate of the Royal Society of Painter-Etchers. Honorary treasurer of The Salon since 1892. Artist and author.
