Leonid Petrovich Grossman was born into a medic family.
Had graduated Richelie Gymnasium in Odessa with a silver medal in 1904 and conitnued his studies in law faculty of Novorossiysk Imperial University (Odessa).
Sometime after his graduation he moved to Moscow and worked as a teacher in multiple universities there. Apart from teaching, his career includes working at State Academy of Art Sciences in Moscow and State Publishing Office of RSFSR.
