Mikhelson, Leonid Viktorovich was born on August 11, 1955 in Kaspijsk, Dagestan, Russia. Son of Viktor Zelmanovich and Praskovia Fedorovna (Shirokova) Mikhelson. His father, Victor Zelmanovich Mikhelson, was occupied with pipeline construction.
Graduate industrial civil engineering, Samara Institute of Civil Engineering, 1977.
Leonid Mikhelson began his career in 1977 as foreman of a construction and assembling company in Surgut, Tyumen region, where he worked on the construction of the first section of Urengoi-Chelyabinsk gas pipeline.
In 1985, Leonid Mikhelson was appointed Chief Engineer of Ryazantruboprovodstroy.
In 1987, he became General Director of Kuibishevtruboprovodstroy, which in 1991, was the first company in the region to sell its shares and became private company, Joint Stock Company SNP NOVA. Mr. Mikhelson remained SNP NOVA’s Managing Director from 1987 through 1994. Subsequently, he became a General Director of the management company “Novafininvest”.
Since 2003, Mr. Mikhelson has served as a member of the Board of Directors and Chairman of the Management Board of NOVATEK.
From March 2008 to December 2010, he has been a member of the Board of Directors of Stroytransgas.
From 2009 to 2010 he was the Chairman of the Board of Directors of Yamal LNG and from 2008 to 2011 he was a member of the Board of Directors of Art Finance.
From 2011 he is the Chairman of the Board of Directors of PJSC SIBUR Holding and from 2011 to 2013 he was a member of the Supervisory Board of the Russian Regional Development Bank.
According to Leonid Mikhelson, he does not like to "show off", that is why he is not very open to express his views. Once he said that his business did not need to be energetically promoted.
