Eyring received a Bachelor of Science degree from the University of Arizona in 1943. Six years later he earned his Doctor of Philosophy degree from the University of California at Berkeley.
Eyring began his career as an assistant professor and an associate professor at State University of Iowa (nowadays Iowa State University of Science and Technology) in 1949. Twelve years later he took a position of a professor of chemistry at Arizona State University. Since 1988 Leroy was an emeritus regents` professor at the same university. In addition, he worked as a chairman of the department at Arizona State University from 1961 to 1969.
